A working museum

Experience history with a silkproduction still running on 170 year old looms.

You will learn about the history of Jaquard's invention from year 1804 and how the machine on adventurous ways ended up in Sweden.
This was Scandinavias largest workplace for women for a couple of decades. The same family produced silk here during five generations, silk for both castle and cottage.

Experience the exciting history about the dawn of our industrial revolution and how important institutions in our society was founded with help from Almgren, The Chamber of Commerce and more.
The silk mill had it's own health insurace, pensionscheme and a cooperative shop (founded 1867) for all the employees working at the Almgren mills.

Today the silk mill is one of Scandinavias oldest preserved industrial environment. We work daily with our 170 year old looms. Today the K.A Almgren silk weaving mill is the only remaining mill north of the alps.
